Thanksgiving Food Drive: “One for Haiti, One for Mercy”

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The season of Thanksgiving is upon us and this year, we have partnered with the charity, Missionaries of the Poor, to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive to support the people of Haiti.  In January 2012, the people of Haiti suffered an earthquake which devastated families and the entire economy.  Most recently, the same community was hit with Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 and is now suffering from the damages and flooding of Hurricane Irma.

This year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive is called “One for Haiti, One for Mercy.” All schools across the York Catholic District School Board are participating in this worthy cause and together, all school communities are asking each student to bring one food item to school before Thanksgiving. If all students across our system provide one item, we will be able to send over 55,000 food items to Haiti!  The goal is to fill a 40 foot long container with food items, such as rice, pasta, dried beans, chickpeas, chicken broth, canned meats, oils, cornmeal and canned fish.

The Missionaries of the Poor will be collecting the items from all YCDSB schools in mid-October and the items will shipped directly to Haiti. For more information about the Missionaries of the Poor visit, www.missionariesofthepoor.org.

Thank you for your support and participation.

With gratitude,

T. Tata
